cultural revolution
nothing like what is happening now has happened for the past 20 years. this egyptian revolution is the beginning of a new cultural world. one where people who are over educated in the arts finally get a bigger say than the squares, who are all concerned about their bachelor of business and $120,000 a year income.
is it so hard to believe that there’s something more important than maintaining a healthy gdp to promote the growth of a country? our sexist, homophobic, war mongering country has been behind the right winged US parliamentary DICTATORSHIP of the world for far too long.
we (the youth of this day) are the generation that will finally remove ourselves from the CORPORATE OPPRESSION (no, not in a ‘that’s so mainstream’ sort of way) of modern society. it has gotten to the stage where we are expected to operate in corporate behaviour, and there are even jobs (with high incomes) that are on offer to MENTALLY DISCRIMINATE against anyone that thinks differently to the corporate mould: finish high school (with a good atar), attend a highly reputable university, get a degree, enter the workforce, find a spouse, have offspring, retire, die.
is that all we have to look forward to?

selling warpaint tickets
mistakenly bought tickets to warpaint on 8th february that clashes with deerhunter (just one of many laneway related dissappointments), so i’m selling 2 tickets for $70 ($15 cheaper than buying off the site). it’s at oaf and starts at 8pm, not sure who’s supporting (18+).

posing
is no one else sick of that slick ‘indie’ look? the one that’s defined more than what someone looks like, but how ‘cool’ they are, how good their MUSIC is, and more importantly, how far above their audience they are, not only in terms of musical ability, but in their worth to the world. they all do the same thing over and over again. and without naming names (i LOVE to generalise) i can legitimately say that i have not been satisfied with an ‘indie’ release in the whole of 2010 (don’t consider it an individual ‘bag out’, more a personal admittance that i am really critical). i admit that there’s a lot of music being MADE right now, but their worth to a world that is changing is minimal in context with musical revolution of the 90’s (i should’ve been born in the 70’s).
it’s come to the point where a whole sub genre of MUSIC has turned into the definition of a PERSONALITY. it’s like saying someone who wears a flannel is ‘grunge’, when they could have a taste for classical ballet and mozart compositions.
instead of taking an angry slur against the patrons of many sydney music venues, i’d rather point out that i feel no need to talk to most of the people that fill the venues and would prefer to stick it out in the back with a glass of red wine (that they cringe with each sip they take). and when, eventually, these people wish to associate themselves with me because of some need to ‘cling’, i can honestly say that my mind won’t have changed. more so, i believe most of these people suffer from a mild form of DID (dissociative identity disorder), in which they operate around one sort of individual (the famous local indie musician), who they believe is their honest to god friend, because they yell that they wish to give blowjobs after the show, only to realise the very person they lust for doesn’t acknowledge any of their comments. what more, they can’t hold a basic conversation with them without wanting to undress themselves.

This is a friends solo project called ‘Guerre’. Really ambient shoegazey vibe to the whole thing, with wonderful little odd beats and droning reverb laden guitars.

“scene”
Distasteful, stupid, socially incompetent, morally inept and hampered by the intent to garner a name by being up to date with trends developed to earn money for the corporatization of the world.
Thinking hurts.

Pro Tools 8
Possibly the coolest most frustrating thing ever made. Have only gotten one proper recording done in two days because it keeps on crashing.

alcian blue crosses joy division. they clash in a sea of blasting rhythms and colourful droning delay, with the end result being astrobite. i don’t know much about them, but they’ve released a couple of full lengths. all that matters is their rhythms are loosey goosey, and it’s almost enjoyable trying to discern what’s going on.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]Un-developed Laurels. It’s interesting listening to the development of a band’s sound, and how they have completely changed their own project to suit the development of their own musical taste. I guess it’s only because my own musical taste changed to match theirs.

The Astral Kaleidoscope
Found this cool side project of a couple of members of the laurels. Really trippy psychedelic sort of stuff. Loving the whole harsh vocals mixed with female vocals.
